Partnerships

One of MCCC’s educational objectives focuses on key collaborations with community partners.  A few examples include:

  • DTE Energy:  A $1 million gift in early March from the DTE Energy Foundation toward the capital campaign for the new Career Technology Center at MCCC and to promote diversity at the college builds on a partnership between DTE Energy and MCCC that has fostered many successful projects of late.  These include projects such as the development of the college’s nuclear engineering technology program and construction management technology certificate program with a specialization in heavy and industrial construction.  In addition, the company constructed a 500-killowat SolarCurrents installation on the MCCC campus in 2011 and made a $45,000 grant and additional in-kind donation of solar equipment in 2010 to MCCC in support of curriculum development to establish an alternative/renewable energy program.
  • La-Z-Boy, Inc.:  The company synonymous with comfort and quality has been a key partner with MCCC over the years.  In 2004, its foundation donated $2 million toward the construction of the La-Z-Boy Center, a business training and performing arts facility at MCCC, and, more recently, made a gift of $500,000 toward the new Career Technology Center at the college.
  • Monroe County Middle College:  The Monroe County Middle College is a collaboration among the Monroe County Intermediate School District, Monroe County Community College and Mercy Memorial Hospital System and is designed to provide students with early entry into a health career program.  Students enter the Monroe County Middle College in the 9th grade with a comprehensive curriculum that will culminate with award of a high school diploma upon graduation. Students in the program also have the opportunity to earn up to 60 transferable college credit hours or an associate’s degree and/or a certificate in the field of health science.
