GENERAL STUDIES MAJOR

To receive a Bachelor of Arts Degree majoring in General Studies students must successfully complete a total of 120 semester hours of credit, thirty (30) hours of which must be taken with Siena Heights University @ 300/400 level.  The major requires fifteen (15) semester hours of credit in each of four areas:  arts and humanities, natural and theoretical sciences, social and behavioral sciences, and interdisciplinary studies or professional studies.

HUMANITIES

Art, Communication Arts, English, Foreign Language, History, Music, Philosophy, and Religious Studies.

15 semester hours

SOCIAL AND BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES

History, Political Science, Psychology, Economics and Sociology.

15 semester hours

NATURAL SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS Biology, Chemistry, Computer and Information Systems, Mathematics,  Physics, and Natural Science.  At least one science course must include a laboratory. 15 semester hours
APPLIED SCIENCE or PROFESSIONAL STUDIES Child Development, Education, Criminal Justice, Social Work, Business Administration, Accounting, Banking and Finance, Economics, Management, Marketing, and Hospitality Management, and Office Administration. 15 semester hours

The major in General Studies is designed with several years of college experience in a variety of academic disciplines.  Students must also fulfill general education requirements, including a philosophy or religious studies course, GEN 301-The Adult as Learner, and GEN 401-Senior Seminar taken with Siena Heights.  In addition, students must demonstrate proficiency in mathematics and writing, and maintain a 2.0 grade point average for all classes taken with Siena Heights University.
