| Family Life Education is an applied interdisciplinary approach to the study of family dynamics and the relationships between families and the larger society. It prepares students for careers in education, the ministry, and social service agencies. Those who complete the program are eligible to become certified Family Life Educators as designated by the National Council on Family Relations. |

MCCC Prior Learning: Credit can be earned at Spring Arbor College by writing life-learning papers that demonstrate appropriate college level learning. Documented learning from professional training, seminars, and licenses can also be evaluated for college credit. Students may apply a maximum of 30 semester hours of life-learning credits toward the degree. |

Emphasizes the experiential nature of nontraditional education and adult development theory, WRT 312 - Critical Analysis & Research Writing Focuses on critical thinking, academic expository and analytical writing. FLE 347 - Family Theory Presents a foundational understanding of the major theories involved in family studies as it relates to the family life perspective. FLE 320 - Human Life Cycle I Considers life span development as it relates to a family life educator from conception to young adulthood. FLE 348 - Marriage, Family and Sexuality Focuses on the dynamic of marriage and family relationships. FLE 340 - Human Life Cycle 11 Concentrates on major periods of the adult life cycle as it relates to family life education. FLE 354 - Research Methods Employs qualitative and quantitative research from a family life perspective. FLE 335 - Interpersonal Relations: Interviewing & Interventions Introduces students to theory and skills essential to effective interpersonal relations. SOC 312 - Ethnicity, Social Class and the Family Focuses on the effect of cultural and ethnic diversity in human development and family issues. SOC 331 - Family Facilitation Programming Considers how the special learning needs of family members translate into program design. IDS 300 - Biblical Perspectives Fosters knowledge and understanding of the literature and history of the Bible and the integration of faith, learning and living. FLE 426 - Parenting and Family Skills Examines parenting as a process that changes over time as both child and parent develop across the life span. IDS 400 - Values: Personal and Social Appraises values through readings and analysis of the workplace. FLE 436 - Professional Family Life Practitioner Introduces the student to legal, ethical and professional concerns of the family life educator.
