FAQ

·        What if I need to add or drop a class?

Adds and drops may be processed via SMART during the registration times listed in the class schedule.  If you need to revise your schedule after telephone registration has ended, you may do so in the Registrar’s Office.  After classes begin, students may add a class prior to the second scheduled class meeting.  Short courses or evening or Saturday classes which meet only once a week may not be entered once the class has met for the first time.

If you need to drop a class after classes have begun, you must pick up a drop form in the Registrar’s Office.  Be aware of the 100% and 50% refund period; after such time refunds will not be issued.  Do not stop attending class and assume that you have been dropped from the class.  You must fill out an official withdrawal form or you will receive a failing grade on your transcript.

·        Am I eligible for a refund if I drop a class?

Be aware of the 100% and 50% refund period; after such time refunds will not be issued.  Click here to view the refund schedule.

·        How many credit hours must I take to be considered a full-time student?

Minimum course load required to be considered a full-time student is 12 credits for fall and winter semester, and six (6) credits for spring and summer sessions.

·        What if I can’t complete the coursework in time?

A student whose semester work is incomplete in a minor way may, upon presentation of reasons satisfactory to his or her instructor, be granted the privilege of completing the work by the end of the 12th week of the next regular semester.  A “Student Request for an Incomplete” form may be obtained in the Registrar’s Office and must be signed by both the instructor and the student.  This form specifies the work to be completed and the grade to be given if the work is not completed.  It is the student’s responsibility to complete the work within the specified time limits.  An “I” will not revert to a “W.”

·        I’m undecided about my major.  Can MCCC help me?

First recognize that a great many students are undecided about their academic goals.  Take advantage of the services that MCCC offers such as career counseling and assessment as well as the resources available in the Career Center, A-103.  Career counseling is an opportunity for you to assess your goals, values, interests and personality preferences, as well as increase your knowledge of the world of work.

·        How do I choose my classes for next semester?

All new students are required to meet with a counselor to receive assistance in deciding on class selection.  Students are then assigned a faculty advisor to assist them in the registration process.  New students will receive a letter in the mail advising them of their faculty advisor prior to the start of registration for the next semester.

·        I plan to transfer to a four-year institution.  How do I know which courses will transfer?

At MCCC, students can earn the first two years of a bachelor’s degree and select courses that transfer to four-year institutions.  The appropriate courses depend on the program of study and the four-year college or university where students intend to obtain a bachelor’s degree.  MCCC works with area four-year institutions to develop transfer guides and equivalency lists.  Transfer guides are specific to individual programs and explain which courses must be taken at MCCC. Click here to view transfer information.

  1. To insure transferability of credits to a specific four-year college or university and program, it is essential that the transfer student identify the college or university and curriculum as soon as possible, consult with a counselor or faculty advisor, and follow the appropriate transfer guide.

  2. Students planning to transfer should become familiar with the transfer institution’s requirements and course guidelines and periodically check in with their transfer institution.

  3. Note:  While following a transfer guide will eliminate many difficulties commonly associated with transferring, it is always a good idea for the student to consult with the college to which they will be transferring.
