COLLEGE REGULATIONS:

This course will be conducted according to the College rules as published in the Catalog. This includes the policies on cheating and plagiarism. It is the student's responsibility to be familiar with these rules.

 

GENERAL POLICY:

A grade of incomplete cannot be given except in the case of serious illness or accident. I do not drop students from my classes. It is the student’s responsibility to drop the class if desired.

For each chapter (1-8):

 

1.      Visit the New Perspectives NP11 Web Site for each chapter (www.course.com/np/concepts11). Listen to the Chapter Overview and try the Pre-Assessment quiz.

2.      Read the chapter. Try the Quick Check questions at the end of each section. The answers are in the textbook beginning on page 484.

3.      Revisit the chapter Web site. This time complete the Try It Activity, try one of the games and check out any Info web links that may interest you.

4.      Complete and submit the Review Quiz for the chapter on the MCCC Blackboard site. You may retake the quiz as many times as necessary before the chapter due date indicated above. Only the last quiz score will be counted. The Review Quizzes are found under the Assignments topic in Blackboard. (Note! If you start a quiz but do not finish it your grade will be recorded as 0.)

5.      After completing all of the above steps take the Chapter Test again found on the MCCC Blackboard site. You may use your book and notes for the test, but you will only have 20 minutes to answer 25 true/false and multiple choice questions. You may only take this test once, so be prepared. The chapter test must be taken before or on the chapter due date. Points are deducted if you go over the 20 minute time limit.

For each assigned Office tutorial:

 

1.      Read and work through the Tutorial, completing the numbered steps in the yellow shaded areas.

2.      Complete the assignment as listed in the above table and submit it via Blackboard. Refer to the Discussion section in Blackboard for specific instructions on submitting assignments and for other important information.

3.   Assignment dates shown in Red indicate a deviation from the day of week or multiple assignments due on the same day.

 

                  Issue Research

 

During the semester, you will write an Issue Research paper presenting your viewpoint on one of the computer related topics described in the Concepts book on the following pages:

The Issue Research paper should be done using Microsoft Word and should be two to three pages in length. Use Times New Roman 12 point font and use 1 ½ lines line spacing. Spelling and grammar checking is your friend, USE IT! Submit the papers via Blackboard. The paper is due Dec 8. The Issue Research paper is worth 60 points.

 

EVALUATION/GRADING:

Each Review Quiz and Chapter Test score will be converted to a scale of 10 points.
***** NOTE ***** 1 point will be deducted from your test score if you exceed the time limit and an additional point will be deducted for each minute over the limit.
YOU MUST KEEP TRACK OF THE TIME YOURSELF DURING TESTS.

Use the Discussion Board (on Blackboard) for this class. I will post information there during the semester. You can post questions and comments and receive responses from me and from other students.

 

Read the Office Tutorials. You can either read the tutorial while you work through the numbered steps on the computer, or first overview the tutorial and then work through the numbered steps.

 

Be punctual. Late assignments will not be accepted. Late quizzes and chapter tests will not be accepted.
