2003 Race Car Specifications

Suspension Specifications

Our race car suspension consists of 2 upper and 2 lower arms, a pull rod, a rocker and a coil (spring + shock). This year we introduced a variable rate suspension which gives us the softness that we want to maintain traction on the road surface and offer the driver a better ride. It also gives us the stiffness necessary to limit body roll when cornering or nose dive when driving. When cornering a weight shift happens, from the inner tires to the outside tires. So you have more weight on your outer tires which can cause a lift in you inner tires. And when that happens you are loosing traction and when you are loosing traction you are not accelerating. So our suspension is designed to also limit body roll too.

The wheel rate (which is the measurement of the suspension) tells how stiff/soft the suspension is on the car. In front at a stationary position of the wheel it is 62 lb/in and in the back it is 74 lb/in. The spring compresses 2 up and .5 down.

Variable Rate Suspensions offer a better ride because:

bullet Softer wheel rate for better Traction on a variety of surfaces
bullet Reacts proportionally to increased load with wheel movement
bullet Damps high impact road hazards to frame and body
bullet Reduces body roll on turning and nose dive on breaking and acceleration.
