| Nursing Program Outcomes and Evaluation |
Meets standards of College, regulatory, and accrediting agencies. The program does meet standards of the College, Michigan Department of Higher Education, Michigan State Board of Nursing, the North Central Association, and the National League for Nursing. Evidence: a. Approval confirmed Michigan State Board of Nursing, October 2002 until September 2007 (Annual Report). b. North Central accreditation granted 2000 until the year 2010. c. National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission confirmed accreditation status January 2003 following submission of a full self-study. Re-accreditation confirmed until 2010 (Self-Study). d. PROE State (2002) report. e. Program Review, MCCC 2002 (Outcome obtained.) 2. Students will attain course and/or program objectives. In the past five years (2000-2004), attrition rates averaged 18.4 percent, with an average of 33 of 40(+ LPNs) admitted students graduating annually. The 2004 graduate survey (Class of 2004) described graduates as meeting practice standards. Advisory Committee feedback was positive concerning graduates as well. (Outcome obtained.) 3. Graduates will pass the licensure examination. The overall success rate since 1975 for first-time writers is 96 percent. The Class of 2004 pass rate was 94 percent (31/33). (Michigan pass rate was 84.59 percent for the same time period.) To date, nearly 100 percent of all students who have been tracked have passed the licensing exam ultimately. (Outcome obtained.) 4. Graduates will be employed. Graduates returning the College graduate survey were working in the field. On an exit survey of the 2004 graduates, 27/32 (84 percent) already had accepted job offers, and all had offers for work. (In 2003, 100 percent of graduates were employed according to the 2003 graduate survey). Feedback continues to be supportive of graduates' abilities to meet employer needs. Full and part-time work is readily available. (Outcome obtained.) 5. Employers will be satisfied with graduates. Employers who returned graduate surveys rated graduates overall as average to excellent in competencies. Quote from the 1998 Employer Follow-up Survey, "There is no competition. MCCC continually turns out an A.D. nursing student of higher caliber than others." Nurse recruiter from large hospital system, 2004, said, "Monroe is at the top of my list for choosing staff." (Outcome obtained.) 6. Graduates will be satisfied with their educational process and outcomes. Graduates evaluated the program of study as meeting their needs. Nearly 100 percent of graduates responding to graduate surveys reported satisfaction with their educational process . One-hundred percent of 2002 graduates report they are critical thinkers, increased by 22 percent from the students' point of view at program admission. One-hundred percent of 2003 graduates report improved communication, critical thinking, and decision-making skills. (Outcome obtained.) 7. Graduates will value on-going education. 2000 Alumni survey of all graduates since 1975 revealed the following: Alumni average 15 - 21 continuing education hours annually. 73 percent subscribe to professional magazine subscriptions. 18 percent were currently in school working toward the next degree; 32 percent had completed a higher degree. 39 percent planned to complete the next degree at some time. Most participated in professional activities we well. At the time of graduation, 2004 graduates had integrated professional development into their lives. For example, 69 percent (22/32) took nursing journals, and most had participated in some type of continuing education outside of their nursing education (78 percent {25/32} had some contact hours in the past year). Most 2004 graduates planned to pursue higher education (29/32 or 91 percent). Also, 91 percent of graduates will probably join or are already a member of a professional organization (29/32).
