| Nursing Program Outcomes and Evaluation |
Meets standards of College, regulatory, and accrediting agencies.
The program does meet standards of the College, Michigan Department of Higher Education, Michigan State Board of Nursing, the North Central Association, and the National League for Nursing.
Evidence:
a. Approval confirmed Michigan State Board of Nursing, October 2002 until September 2008 (Annual Report).
b. North Central accreditation granted 2000 until the year 2010.
c. National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission confirmed accreditation status January 2003 following submission of a full self-study.
Re-accreditation confirmed until 2010 (Self-Study).
2. Students will attain course and/or program objectives.
In the past five years (2004-2008), attrition rates averaged 16.6 percent graduating annually.
The 2007 graduate survey (Class of 2007) described graduates as meeting practice standards. Advisory Committee feedback was positive concerning graduates as well. (Outcome obtained.)
3. Graduates will pass the licensure examination.
The overall success rate for the years 2001-2008 for first-time writers is 95 percent. The Class of 2008 pass rate was 100 percent (34/34). (Michigan pass rate was 88 percent for the same time period.) To date, nearly 100 percent of all students who have been tracked have passed the licensing exam ultimately. (Outcome obtained.)
4. Graduates will be employed.
On an exit survey of the 2008 graduates, 93 percent had already accepted job offers, and all had offers for work. Feedback continues to be supportive of graduates' abilities to meet employer needs. Full and part-time work is readily available. (Outcome obtained.)
5. Employers will be satisfied with graduates.
Employers who returned graduate surveys rated graduates overall as average to excellent in competencies. Quote from the 2005 Employer Follow-up Survey, "There is no competition. MCCC continually turns out an A.D. nursing student of higher caliber than others." Nurse recruiter from large hospital system, 2007, said, "Monroe is at the top of my list for choosing staff." (Outcome obtained.)
6. Graduates will be satisfied with their educational process and outcomes.
Generally, students express satisfaction with their educational experience. (Outcome obtained).
7. Graduates will value on-going education.
2007 Alumni survey of all graduates since 1975 revealed the following:
• Alumni average 19 continuing education hours annually.
• Alumni subscribe to an average of 14 professional journals.
• 18.6 percent were currently in school working toward the next degree; 34.5 percent had completed a higher degree.
• 19 percent planned to complete the next degree in the near future.
• Most participated in professional activities we well.
