How can I become an SI Leader?

Responsibilities

  • Lead two, one-hour peer assisted SI study sessions per week
  • Attend lectures for your assigned class, take notes, review homework assignments
  • Plan and facilitate well thought-out interactive SI sessions

Minimum Criteria Needed to Apply

  • Must have previously taken the same course (prefer that course was taken at MCCC with same instructor)
  • Must have received a minimum of a B in the course
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Must be recommended by the faculty member from the course
  • Must have good interpersonal skills to work faculty
  • Must be willing to make a commitment to be an SI leader for the entire semester

Application Process

  • SI leaders are hired each semester for courses which meet specific criteria
  • All applications will be reviewed by the SI Liaison
  • If selected, applicant must complete 8 hours of initial SI training before the semester begins and attend subsequent SI meetings

Compensation

  • SI leaders are paid at the current student assistant rate for training, planning, attending lectures and leading SI sessions

Certification

  • SI leaders are eligible for Levels I and II certification through the College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA) after fulfilling the certification requirements
