Who Goes to Tutoring?

Any MCCC student who needs or wants academic support at any level is welcome to make a tutor appointment. It doesn't matter whether the need is big or small.

Students have a variety of reasons for working with a tutor. Some receive tutoring because they-

  • are dissatisfied with the progress they are making in their class
  • are "B" students who are working for an "A"
  • are trying to pass an especially difficult course
  • use it as a study tool. Working with a tutor helps them to be a more effective student
  • don't understand material from a lecture
  • come for strategies to be successful in their class
  • use it to prepare for a test
  • learn best when they are discussing material with another person
  • missed a class lecture and need assistance in "catching up"
  • are required by their instructor
  • may receive extra points

When should you think about seeing a tutor?

  • See a tutor at the first inkling you don't understand the course material.
  • See a tutor as soon as you realize you aren't doing as well as you want.

Don't wait until you are so far behind that there is little hope of catching up!
