Letters of W. H. Eaton
September 11, 1864

To view, print, or download a letter
To view a letter, click on one of the items in the list to the left. For each of them you will see a page with an onscreen image along with several links. To see an enlarged view of the letter click on the “View / print this page as PDF” link. This will open Adobe Acrobat Reader or a similar program on your computer if it is installed. A toolbar menu should appear with magnifier glass icons marked with (+) or (-). These allow you to enlarge and shrink the image for easier reading.

To print the letter click on the printer icon. Otherwise, click the file menu bar, and from there click print. To download a letter, click the save button in Adobe Acrobat Reader. You will be asked for a location on your computer to save the letter to.

Trouble?
If you do not have a PDF reader program installed you may still view enlarged pictures of the letters. Click on the “large jpeg image” link. However users of Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or later for Windows will find that after clicking on the link, the image that appears in a new window does not seem to be enlarged. This is because Internet Explorer 6 for Windows automatically resizes pictures to fit into a browser window.

To see the enlarged letter pictures full-size, either use another browser like Netscape, or adjust the settings in Microsoft Internet Explorer for Windows by doing the following:

Click on the Tools menu in Internet Explorer
Click Advanced
Scroll down to the section of the menu titled “Multimedia”
In the Multimedia section uncheck the “automatic resizing” checkbox
Click OK or Apply
