MCCC TO HOLD RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY
FOR GEOTHERMAL-BASED HVAC SYSTEM

MONROE, Mich. – Monroe County Community College officials will formally recognize the college’s switchover from an outdated, conventional heating, ventilation and air conditioning system to a much more energy-efficient and earth-friendly geothermal-based system during a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, August 30 from 9-10:30 a.m. in the Dining Room of the Audrey M. Warrick Student Services/Administration Building.

The ribbon cutting will be the culmination of a 2-year, $16.1 million project financed by the college over 20 years that has completely transformed the way it heats and cools most of its buildings on its Main Campus, while providing major cost and environmental benefits.

The ceremony is open to the public.  It will begin with light refreshments at 9 a.m. in the Dining Room, followed by about 30 minutes of remarks beginning at 9:15 a.m.  At 9:45 a.m., attendees will be invited to walk outside of the building to enter the boiler room for the formal ribbon cutting ceremony, which will be followed by brief tours and Q&A.

Attendees are advised to wear hard-soled, closed-toe shoes and attire appropriate for entering a boiler room.

Speakers will include Dr. Kojo Quartey, president of MCCC, who will serve as master of ceremonies; Lynette Dowler, chair, MCCC Board of Trustees; Jack Burns, director of campus planning and facilities; Trent DeBoer, project engineer, GMB Architecture and Engineering, and representatives from Ameresco, Inc., the engineer and general contractor for the project.
