State of the College Address Set for Nov. 2

MONROE, Mich. – Monroe County Community College President Dr. Kojo A. Quartey will present the State of the College Address to the Community on Nov. 2 from 7:45-9 a.m. at the headquarters of Monroe Bank & Trust.

The event, which is open to the public, will be held in the 4th Floor Assembly Room.  MBT’s headquarters are located at 10 Washington St. in Downtown Monroe.

Quartey, the fifth president of MCCC, completed his fifth full year in office over the summer.

At the address, Quartey will update the community on the status of projects that are part of the college’s 5-year Maintenance and Improvement Millage.  Among the projects he will discuss will be two that were recently completed – major exterior structural repairs to the Life Science Building and the student collaboration area addition to that facility.  He will discuss the status of the upcoming renovation to the East and West Technology buildings, which will be combined into one building to house numerous services geared toward student success, state-of-the art classrooms and computer labs, an abundance of adaptable student lounge areas and work spaces, and several college departments.

Quartey will also discuss MCCC’s enrollment – credit enrollment decreased slightly in this fall after stabilizing the two years prior, while non-credit enrollments in 2017-18 were up about 6 percent – and provide updates on numerous grant projects, activities of The Foundation at MCCC, and the college's adoption of updated mission, vision and core values statements that are informing the new strategic planning process.
