APRIL 10 COMMUNITY CONVERSATION: THE FUTURE OF MCCC'S WHITMAN CENTER IN TEMPERANCE

On Wednesday, April 10, at 4:30 p.m. the leadership of Monroe County Community College will host the second of two Community Conversations to illicit input from area residents as the college makes plans for the future use of MCCC’s Whitman Center in Temperance, located at 7777 Lewis Ave, in Temperance, MI.

Since 1991, the Whitman Center has served as an important asset in South Monroe County; however, as student, needs have changed, the usage of the center has declined. Students who once filled the classrooms at the Whitman Center now increasingly choose online sections. What was once a vibrant and bustling facility for higher learning in recent years and a fresh look at how best to optimize the use of the facility for not only students, but for the entire community.

“Important decisions need to be made about the Whitman Center and we strongly encourage the participation of the community in helping guide us,” said Dr. Kojo Quartey, president of MCCC. “The center was established decades ago to serve as a resource for the residents of the southern-most communities in Monroe County. We want to ensure that the Whitman Center serves the needs of the community going forward.”

As the college enters into the planning stages for reinvigorating the Whitman Center, now is the most opportune time for community input and offering ideas and suggestions. “No one understands the needs of this community better than its residents and businesses,” added Quartey.
