MCCC’S ANNUAL REPORT WINS GOLD ‘ADDY’ AWARD
MONROE, Mich. – Monroe County Community College’s 2006-2007 Annual Report to the Community, entitled Learning Relationships, won a Gold ADDY® Award at the 2008 Advertising Club of Toledo ADDY Awards held last night at Owens Community College.
The Annual Report now moves on to the district ADDY competition in Cincinnati, Ohio on March 29, and if it is successful there, the national competition.
With more 60,000 entries annually, the ADDY Awards are the world’s largest and arguably toughest advertising competition. The ADDY Awards represent the true spirit of creative excellence by recognizing all forms of advertising from media of all types, creative by all sizes and entrants of all levels from anywhere in the world. The American Advertising Federation, a not-for-profit industry association, conducts the ADDY Awards through its 200 member advertising clubs and 15 districts. It is the only creative awards program administered by the advertising industry for the industry.

The entry was submitted by Concentrek Group, a communications firm in Toledo that designed the Annual Report on behalf of MCCC. All copy development, editing, proofreading and photography for the Annual Report was done in-house by MCCC’s Office of Institutional Advancement. The piece was written by Joe Verkennes, director of marketing, who also served as project manager, and all photography was shot by Mark Spenoso, the college’s digital imaging specialist.
The Annual Report is MCCC’s premier public relations piece and is distributed countywide via insertion in the Monroe Evening News and select distribution through the U.S. mail, Verkennes said. It provides the residents of Monroe County with a yearly update on the significant work and accomplishments of MCCC, a detailed summary of expenditures and revenues for the college and The Foundation at MCCC and a listing of individuals and organizations who have given annual gifts to the college.
“This year’s theme, Learning Relationships, is one of the main pillars of MCCC’s ‘enriching lives’ brand,” said Verkennes. “It refers to the one-on-one, personal attention we provide to our students through hands-on teaching and individual mentorship.
“For the 2006-2007 Annual Report, the words Learning Relationships took on even greater significance by serving as a theme that represents not only the relationships between faculty, staff and students, but also the many other relationships MCCC fosters to enrich students’ lives: relationships with the community as a whole, other learning-based institutions, corporations, vendors, other not-for-profit organizations and more.
“Last year was a phenomenal year of accomplishments at MCCC. We are honored that our Annual Report captured the essence of all those accomplishments so well that it was recognized with a coveted ADDY Award.”
