DENNIS ARCHER TO SPEAK AT LA-Z-BOY CENTER
MONROE, Mich. – Former Detroit mayor Dennis Archerwill be the featured speaker at the Monroe County Chamber of Commerce’s April Koffee Club, which will take place at Monroe County Community College’s La-Z-Boy Center at 7:45 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23.
Archer – one of the “100 Most Influential Black Americans,” according to Ebony magazine and one of the “100 Most Powerful Attorneys in the U.S,” according to the National Law Journal – will be speaking about the “Keys to Success in Our Diverse World.”
Archer served two four-year terms as mayor of the city of Detroit (1994-2001) and earned national and international respect for his success in changing Detroit's image and direction. In 1985, Governor James Blanchard appointed Archer an associate justice of the Michigan Supreme Court. He was elected to an eight-year term the following year.
He was the first person of color elected president of the American Bar Association (2003-2004) as well as the State Bar of Michigan.
Archer is now Chairman of Dickinson Wright, a Detroit-based law firm with more than 200 attorneys, with offices in Michigan and Washington, D.C. He sits on the corporate boards of Johnson Controls Inc., Compuware Corporation and Masco Corporation. He also is on the nonprofit boards of the CATCH Foundation and the Community Foundation of Southeast Michigan.
