MCCC AWARDS THE HELEN M. AND
EUGENE W. BEACH SCHOLARSHIP

MONROE, Mich. – Monroe County Community College has awarded the Helen M. and Eugene W. Beach Scholarship to Seemi Fatima, Ron Heiserman, Anjaya Vanslambrouck and Judith Bert.  The $1,000 scholarship may be used for tuition, books and fees.

  • Fatima, originally from India, is a Monroe resident and is pursuing a degree in respiratory therapy.
  • Heiserman, of Monroe, is a 1983 graduate of Monroe Catholic Central and is pursuing a degree in respiratory therapy.
  • Bert is a resident of Erie and is pursuing a degree in nursing.  She is also a recipient of the Mercy Memorial Hospital Nursing Scholarship.
  • Vanslambrouck, of Monroe, is pursuing a degree in nursing.

This scholarship was established by Eugene W. and Helen M. Beach to assist second-year nursing or respiratory therapy students.  Since it was established, the scholarship has been awarded to 81 students.

Helen Beach graduated as a registered nurse through a program at Maumee Valley Hospital School of Nursing that provided room, board and a small stipend.  She and her husband Eugene, a graduate of Worshem Mortuary Science School in Chicago, started a business of caring for the elderly that became the Beach Nursing Home in 1950 and grew to 192 patients.
