MCCC AWARDS THE BEACH CULINARY SCHOLARSHIP

MONROE, Mich. – Monroe County Community College has awarded the Beach Culinary Scholarship to Richard Martin of Gibraltar. The $250 award can be used for fees, books, supplies and other educational expenses.

Martin, who is pursuing a degree in culinary skills and management student, is a 2006 graduate of Carleton High School, where he was a member of the chess club.  He is the son of Denise and Geoffery Brown.

The late Helen M. Beach (1913-2000) established this scholarship to benefit an above average student in the culinary skills and management program at MCCC who is in financial need and demonstrates a high degree of professional integrity.  Beach was a frequent patron of MCCC’s Cuisine 1300, a restaurant run by students in the culinary skills and management program, and she wanted to support the program that brought her so much joy.  She had already established an endowed scholarship for nursing and respiratory therapy students in 1984, so she established the Beach Culinary Scholarship in 1991.  To date, 19 scholarships have been awarded.

For more information on available scholarships and financial aid, please contact the MCCC Financial Aid Office at (734) 384-4135. If you are interested in information about funding a scholarship, contact The Foundation at MCCC at (734) 384-4206.
