MCCC TO PRESENT 1ST-EVER ‘COLLAGE CONCERT’ FEB. 18
MONROE, Mich. – The first-ever Monroe County Community College Collage Concert –
“MC5” – will be held on Monday, February 18 and will feature a variety of local musical talent showcased in fast-paced, multi-stage format.
The concert, hosted by the College/Community Symphony Band and Agora Chorale, will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the La-Z-Boy Center, Meyer Theater and will be about 90-minutes in length.
The concert is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
According to Mark Felder, director of the Band, the Collage Concert concept was pioneered by the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y. and the University of Michigan.
Collage brings together a diverse variety of musical fabrics and textures. It is a unique presentation of the arts that is a study in antithesis, calling for rapid juxtaposition of musical styles and forms without the interruption of applause.
“The collage concept is new to Monroe audiences,” Felder said, adding that MC5 is a “must-see event for anyone who enjoys quality musical acts performing in a unique style and setting.”
Felder is coordinating the production of the concert along with John Tyner, director of the MCCC’s Agora Chorale.
Musical acts that will be featured at MC5 include: MC3 Oboe Ensemble; Monroe Youth Orchestra - Symphony Strings; Trio de Lafayette; Woodsong, A Rose Among (T)Horns; RRCA Presentation - Michelle Sontag and Kellie Lajiness; Monroe Recorder Consort; Paul DeVee and Friends; Robin Bloomberg - Cello, John Tyner - Baritone Voice; MC3 Clarinet Ensemble; Kevin Daniels; Cathy Brodie - Soprano Voice and Mark Felder - Clarinet; River Raisin Chorus - Sweet Adelines International; RRCA Treble Youth Chorale, and Steven Thornton.
