MCCC AWARDS THE FALLEN FIREFIGHTERS SCHOLARSHIP

MONROE, Mich. – Monroe County Community College has awarded the Fallen Firefighters Scholarship to Monroe residents Emily DeSloover, Joseph Hess, Jeffrey Kansier, Kacie Kansier and Rebecca Woodbury in the amount of $750.  The scholarship may be used for tuition, fees, books and supplies.

  • DeSloover is a 2007 graduate of Monroe High School and is pursing a degree in psychology. While at MHS, she received the Academic Award, Music Award, Music Scholarship and National Honors Society Award.  She was involved in Drama Club, Spanish Club and the National Honors Society.  She is the daughter of Kathy and Mike DeSloover.
  • Hess is a 2007 graduate of Monroe High School and is pursing a career in health.  While in high school, Hess was a 2003-2004 Monroe City Academic All-Star, captain of the wrestling team and involved in the Health Clusters program. 
  • Jeffrey Kansier is a 2001 Airport High School graduate and is pursing a degree in business administration.
  • Kacie Kansier is a 2005 Dundee High School graduate and is pursing a degree special education.
  • Woodbury is a 2007 Monroe High School graduate and is pursing a degree in liberal arts.

The scholarship was established by the Monroe County Firefighters to provide scholarship assistance for firefighters of Monroe County and their dependents.
