MCCC AGORA CHORALE AND COLLEGE/COMMUNITY
SYMPHONY BAND TO PRESENT HOLIDAY CONCERT

MONROE, Mich. ­– Monroe County Community College’s College/Community Symphony Band  and Agora Chorale and will present upcoming holiday concerts at MCCC’s La-Z-Boy Center, Meyer Theater.

The Band, under the direction of Mark Felder, will present “A Christmas Concert” on Monday, December 17 at 7:30 p.m. 

Joining the Band for “The Bells of Christmas” by Robert Longfield will be Dr. William McCloskey as narrator, as well as the St. John’s Catholic Church Handbell Choir and the First Presbyterian Church Handbell Choir.  William Marr, euphonium soloist, will perform “Rhapsody for Euphonium.”

Other selections to be performed by the Band include “A Christmas Festival” by Leroy Anderson, “Fum, Fum, Fum” a traditional Spanish carol arranged by Chip Davis and Robert Longfield, “Irish Tune from County Derry” by Percy Aldridge Grainger, “Fantasia for Christmas” arranged by Elliot Del Borgo, “Chorale and Shaker Dance” By John Zdechlik, “Russian Christmas Music” by Alfred Reed and “Hands Across the Sea” by John Phillip Sousa.

The Agora Chorale, directed by John Tyner with accompanist Staci Dreger, will perform a number of holiday selections, including several with the RRCA Treble Youth Chorale, at its concert on December 18 at 7:30 p.m.
The selections to be preformed with the RRCA Treble Youth Chorale, which is conducted by Catherine Brodie with accompanist Jane Kruger, include “Carol of the Bells” by M. Leontovich, “Keep Your Lamps Trimmed and Burnin” arranged by G. Gilpin, “Durme, Durme” a Latino lullaby arranged by D. Eddleman and “Sleigh Bells” a Ukranian folk carol arranged by E. Rentz. 

Other selections to be performed by the Agora Chorale include “Make Me Merry” a 15th Century English Carol by Kayron Lee Scott, “The Christmas Song” arranged by Kirby Shaw, “Here we Come A-Wassailing” arranged by John Rutter, “Winter Wonderland” arranged by Ed Lojeski, “Ule Luma Lugadale” a traditional Estonian carol arranged by Ken Berg, “Good King Wenceslas” a 14th Century melody arranged by David Willcocks, “How Beautiful Upon the Mountains” by John Stainer and “Run Ye Shepherds, To the Light”  (with Brodie as soprano) by Michael Haydn.

Admission to the concert is free. The La-Z-Boy Center is located on MCCC’s main campus at 1555 S. Raisinville Rd. in Monroe.
