MCCC AWARDS THE DR. GERALD L. HOWE SCHOLARSHIP

Samantha RavaryMONROE, Mich. – Monroe County Community College has awarded the Dr. Gerald L. Howe Scholarship to Samantha Ravary of Erie. The $1,000 scholarship is to be used for tuition, books, and fees.

Ravary is a 2006 graduate of Mason High School. While in high school, she was a member of the National Honor Society and a four-year basketball player. In addition, she was fifth in her graduating class and won the Lenawee County Athletic Association Sportsmanship Award and Scholar Athlete Award. She plans on pursuing a career as a nursing anesthesiologist. Ravary also received the scholarship in 2006-2007.

The Dr. Gerald L. Howe Scholarship was established by Dr. Howe as an incentive for students committed to pursuing an education in the medical field. Upon moving to the community after completing his education to become an orthodontist at Northwestern University, Dr. Howe became the first full-time orthodontist in Monroe. Now retired, he remains active as a member of the Monroe Family YMCA Board of Directors, The Foundation at MCCC Board of Directors, and the Monroe Rotary Club.
