MCCC AWARDS THE MIDWAY PRODUCTS –
LYMAN E. HOYT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

 

MONROE, Mich. – Monroe County Community College has awarded the Midway Products – Lyman E. Hoyt Memorial Scholarship to Omar G. Ferdin of Monroe.  The $1,000 award can be used for tuition, books and fees.

The scholarship was established in honor of Monroe resident Lyman Hoyt, who founded Midway Products Group in 1956.  The scholarship is available to full-time MCCC students enrolled in automotive technology, mechanical design technology, mechanical engineering technology, manufacturing technology or welding technology.  Eligible students must have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 and must also be a resident of Monroe County or a child of a Midway Products Group, Inc. employee.

Hoyt remained president of Midway Products until his passing in 1977.  Active in the Monroe community, he was a member of the Monroe County Historical Society, Monroe Club, Detroit Beach Downtown Coaches Association and numerous volunteer organizations.
