MCCC OFFERS THE PUBLIC A “TASTE OF TECH” ON NOV. 8

Women in Technology Seminar New This Year

MONROE, Mich. – Monroe County Community College is inviting all high school students, parents, career-changing adults and others interested in learning about and experiencing a full, hands-on sampling of the varied technological programs being offered at the college.

On Thursday, November 8 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., the Industrial Technology Division at MCCC will present its “Taste of Tech” program in the East and West Technology Buildings on the college’s Main Campus.

Technologies included are automotive engineering, construction management, electronics and computer, industrial electricity/electronics, manufacturing, mechanical design, mechanical engineering, metrology/quality systems and welding.

At this hands-on smorgasbord, participants curious about the various career fields will have the chance to weld various metals, run state-of-the-art machine tools, control robots, draw with CAD equipment, test the strength of steel and program electronic equipment.

In addition, there will be two sessions of a special seminar, “Women in Technology,” which is new this year.  The seminar, sponsored by the Learning Assistance Lab, is designed to help women interested in technology overcome possible psychological or academic obstacles to success in the field.  The seminar sessions will run from 5:30 to 5:50 p.m. and 6:30 to 6:50 p.m.

“Taste of Tech” is free and open to the public.  The event provides a great opportunity for non-traditional students to explore careers they may not otherwise consider.

For more information about the event, call the MCCC Industrial Technology Division at 734-384-4112 or 877-YES-MCCC or visit the “Taste of Tech” web page at www.monroeccc.edu/tasteoftech/.
