MCCC PRESENTS THE FANTASTICKS MAY 9, 10, 11

Dinner Theater Performance to be held May 9

MONROE, Mich. – Monroe County Community College’s own QuagMeyer Productions will present The Fantasticks on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 9, 10 and 11 at the La-Z-Boy Center, Meyer Theater.

The La-Z-Boy Center is located on MCCC’s main campus at 1555 S. Raisinville Rd. in Monroe.

Show times are 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.  A dinner theater performance will be held on Friday, May 9 only.  Dinner (which includes a cash bar) will be served at 6:30 p.m.  Tickets for the Dinner Theater are $30; show only tickets may be purchased for $10.

The Fantasticks is the world’s longest running musical, opening in 1960 and closing its final curtain in 2002, chalking up a total of 17,162 performances.  Written by Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones, this coming-of-age story focuses on two meddling, matchmaking fathers who scheme to get their children together.  Once the couple is united, however, their plan is revealed and the couple’s relationship crumbles, only to be reignited after they experience romantic disappointments in the outside world.

The production features several memorable songs, including “Try To Remember” and “Soon It’s Gonna Rain.”

The cast includes Steve Ryder, director/Henry; John Bacarella, music director; Brad Lieto as Matt; Alison Drougel as Luisa; Brian Gault as El Gallo; Bill McCloskey as Mortimer; Tim Spoehr as Hucklebee; Joanna Bacarella as The Mute; and Steve Thornton as Bellomy.
