WETMORE JOINS MCCC AS DEAN
OF HEALTH SCIENCES DIVISION
MONROE, Mich. – Dawn Wetmore has joined Monroe County Community College as dean of the Health Sciences Division.
Wetmore, who officially began as dean in mid-December, oversees the college’s programs in registered nursing, licensed practical nursing, RN from LPN/licensed vocational nurse (online), respiratory therapy, gerontology, phlebotomy and electrocardiography, as well as the nurse aide training course and all credit courses in health and physical education. She also serves as the director of nursing for the college.
“Dawn was unanimously selected by our search team as the top candidate for this position,” said Dr. Grace Yackee, vice president of instruction for MCCC. “She brings to the college a unique blend of knowledge and experience in both higher education administration and health education. We are delighted to have someone of her caliber assuming such an important position at MCCC.”
Wetmore, who began her career in the health sciences in 1970 as a staff nurse at Mt. Carmel Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, has more than 30 years of teaching and administrative experience at both the community college and university levels. The Perrysburg, Ohio resident came to MCCC from Owens Community College, where she spent 12 years – most recently as dean of academic services, a position she held since 2004. Prior to that, she was chairman of OCC’s nursing department from 2000-2004 and assistant chairman from 1996-2000. Prior to working at OCC, Wetmore held administrative positions and taught at the University of Toledo and Medical College of Ohio School of Nursing.
She holds a master of science degree in nursing from the Medical College of Ohio, a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Mary Manse College in Toledo, Ohio and a diploma in nursing from the Providence School of Nursing in Mobile, Ala.
Wetmore is active in many professional organizations including the Ohio Nurses Association, the Northwest Ohio Nurses Association, the National Organization for Associate Degree Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau – Zeta Theta Chapter and the Lourdes College Nursing Advisory Committee.
She was appointed to the Ohio Board of Nursing in 1996 by Ohio’s governor at the time, George Voinovich, and served on the board until 2000.
