MCCC TO HOLD NUMEROUS
CAREER WORKSHOPS THIS FALL

TEMPERANCE and MONROE, Mich. – This fall, Monroe County Community College will be holding a number of workshops for people who are in the process of making career choices.

At the Whitman Center, located at 7777 Lewis Ave. in Temperance, the college will be holding three workshops:  Career Decisions, Create Dynamic Resumes and Cover Letters and Successful Interviewing.

  • Career Decisions is designed for anyone making a career change, re-entering the job market or deciding about a college major.  It will help participants discover career interests, work values and personality strengths through a series of fun, interactive on-line assessments.  In addition, participants will be able to evaluate transferable skills and determine if they need further training or education.  A career counselor with over 20 years experience will conduct the workshop.   Career Decisions meets once a week for four weeks.  Sessions are on October 3, 10, 17 and 24 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Room 6.  The cost is $24 (free for currently enrolled MCCC students).
  • Create Dynamic Resumes and Cover Letters will provide advice on producing effective and dynamic job search correspondence.  Participants are encouraged to bring their current resumes to class.  The workshop takes place on November 7 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Room 6.  The cost is $24 (free for currently enrolled students).
  • Successful Interviewing.  This workshop will take the mystery out of the job interviewing process.  Participants will learn how to tackle those tough interview questions and receive tips and strategies on how to “ace” that important interview.  The workshop meets on November 14 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in Room 6.  The cost is $19 (free for currently enrolled MCCC students)

To register for the career workshops at the Whitman Center, call (734) 847-0559 or (734) 384-4127.

On the Main Campus, located at 1555 S. Raisinville Rd. in Monroe, MCCC will offer a free Career and Life Decisions Workshop for current MCCC students.

The workshop is designed to assist students who are in the process of making a career decision, and the primary objective will be to develop a better understanding of self and specific decision-making skills.

Students will have the opportunity to assess their interests, skills, needs and values through several evaluative instruments and exercises.  In addition, a variety of resources will be utilized for exploring career fields.  Resume preparation will be included.  The workshop meets once a week each Tuesday from October 30 through December 11 in Room 153 of the Audrey M. Warrick Student Services/Administration Building.  Each session runs from 9-10:20 a.m.

To RSVP for the Career and Life Decisions Workshop on Main Campus, MCCC students should contact Dr. Joyce Haver, professor of counseling, at (734) 384-4105 or jhaver@monroeccc.edu.  Space is limited, so register early.
