ATTENDANCE:
REGULAR AND PROMPT ATTENDANCE IS A REQUIREMENT OF THIS COURSE.
To encourage this, students will receive six points added to their point
total for
each complete class attended. Students arriving late or leaving early
will have three points
added to their point total per class attended.
Students missing class because of illness
or required attendance at a college-sponsored
event can earn attendance points by one of the following:
1. Provide a written excuse from a doctor.
2. Provide a written excuse from the faculty sponsor.
Students missing more than three (3) classes FOR ANY REASON will be requested
to
drop the class.
REGARDLESS OF THE REASON FOR AN ABSENCE, IT IS THE STUDENTS' RESPONSIBILITY
TO FIND OUT WHAT THEY MISSED AND MAKE IT UP PROMPTLY.
CHEATING: The following items are
considered forms of cheating and will result in disciplinary action if
they occur during a test or quiz: 1) any discussion with someone other
than the instructor;
2) copying from another student's work; 3) the use of any materials other
than those specified
by the instructor.
GRADING: The student's grade will
be determined by their performance on the tests, quizzes, and
homework; plus attendance points earned. The quizzes and homework will
be weighted
so as to equal one, 100 point test. The final letter grades will be based
on the total points
earned:
A = 680-605 D = 479-430
B = 604-555 E = 429 and below
C = 554-480
W and I
Students withdrawing from this course in the first twelve weeks will be
assigned an automatic
"W" regardless of the quality of their course work. After twelve
weeks, a "W" will be assigned
only if their course work is passing AT THE TIME OF THE WITHDRAWAL. All
other students will
be assigned an "E".
A grade of "I" (incomplete) will
be assigned to students whose term work is incomplete in a
MINOR way. An "I" grade will be reserved for critical situations
that arise that are beyond
the control of the student, e.g. hospital illness, death in family, etc.
Make-ups will be allowed on all tests but not on quizzes or homework.
Missed quizzes
or unsubmitted homework will be assigned a score of zero. With regard
to make-up tests, (1)
no make-ups will be given during the last week of the semester; (2) make-up
tests are usually
more difficult and are graded more stringently. For these reasons, it
is to the student's
advantage to take the tests when they are scheduled, if at all possible.
HOMEWORK: HOMEWORK IS A REQUIREMENT
OF THIS COURSE AND IS ONE OF THE MOST
IMPORTANT ASPECTS OF THIS CLASS. STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO HAVE ALL
HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS COMPLETED IN A NEAT MANNER BEFORE COMING
TO CLASS. Students unable to consistently fulfill this requirement will
be requested to drop the class.
COUNSELING: One of the many advantages of MCCC is the easy accessibility
of your professors for
additional instruction and/or counseling. If you need help, take advantage
of this opportunity.
