Earn college credit using the knowledge and skills gained during completion of your high school coursework.Through the Monroe County Community College Tech Prep program, high school students are able to use the knowledge and skills gained from completion of high school courses to earn college credit. Assorted courses at Monroe County Community College have been designated as "Tech Prep" courses for which articulated credit may be available. Upon completion of identified high school courses, high school students may request an opportunity to take a test designed by MCCC instructors to assess the knowledge gained during the high school course. If the student receives a grade of "C" or better on this test, credit for the appropriate MCCC course may be awarded to the student. This credit can range from 1 to 6 credit hours per course, depending upon the subject area. This is "actual" college credit and once the student meets the stipulations outlined in the course articulation agreement, an official College Transcript will be created for the student which will include the Tech Prep credit earned. One of the best features of the Tech Prep program at MCCC is that this credit is earned TUITION FREE! Students who successfully complete the Tech Prep exams do not have to pay any tuition or fees for the credits earned. At current tuition rates that could mean anywhere from $73 to over $430 worth of college credits, depending upon the tests successfully completed. The credit earned can then be applied toward a certificate or associate degree at MCCC. Students, Teachers and High School counselors should carefully review the Articulation Guidelines Handbook for all details of how the articulation process works.
For more information about Tech Prep, high school students should contact their teachers, counselor, and/or Career Technical Education Coordinator, or the MCCC Admissions Office at 734-384-4104 or Paul Knollman MCCC Tech Prep Coordinator at 734-384-4282.
