EMAIL your paper to [ Writing@monroeccc.edu ]
-or-
FAX your paper to a tutor at: 734-384-4338

An E-tutor will respond within 48 hours! We recommend face-to-face tutoring session whenever possible.

If you have a Writing Fellow assigned to your on-campus course, online tutoring is only available for that course with instructor permission.

What is email tutoring?

Any student currently enrolled at MCCC may submit his or her writing via e-mail to the Writing Center for tutoring. While we encourage you to work through all stages of the writing process from prewriting to a final draft, we will only provide electronic tutoring for an actual draft of a paper.

A Writing Fellow will respond to your paper by giving you suggestions for global improvements (e.g., thesis, topic sentences, paragraph development, and sentence structure), by explaining revision or editing strategies, or by suggesting other resources (e.g., handbooks, online help sites, follow-up appointments). We can also answer limited questions about research strategies, mechanics, MLA documentation, and writing style.

How long does this process take?

While we will try to return your paper within a few hours, we only guarantee a 48-hour turn around time. This means that from the time we receive your paper or question, we will respond to it at some point within two days (not including Sunday). Obviously, this is not a service for last minute papers.

Why should I use this service?

While we believe that face-to-face tutoring is always the best method for a writing conference, we also recognize that time is important, and for several reasons it might be more convenient for you to submit your paper to the Writing Center electronically rather than in person. In addition, if you are taking an Online Course at MCCC, travel time to the College may be prohibitive.

How do I get started?

Send your paper as an e-mail "attachment" to the following address: Writing@monroeccc.edu

Please include your Name, Student Number, Course Name, Instructor, and Final Paper Due Date in the e-mail dialogue box.

Remember you must send your paper as an attachment. Do not place it the e-mail dialogue box. If you have composed your paper using Microsoft Word (either for Windows or Macintosh) we will be able to open your document.

If you have used another software program, please let us know what it is and we will do our best to find a compatible program. When technical problems occur, you will be notified that we cannot read your attachment, and we will suggest you make an appointment to see a Writing Fellow in the Writing Center.

When can I use this service?

Tutors are available for e-mail tutoring Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. However, you may email your paper or question anytime night or day. As stated earlier, the maximum turn-around time for a paper or question may be up to 48 hours. If you have questions about the program you can do one of the following: call the Writing Center at 734-384-4167, call the WAC Coordinator (Timothy Dillon) at 734-384-4295, drop by the Writing Center located in CLRC 218, or send an email to: Writing@monroeccc.edu
