Research Paper Checklist

You should be able to answer “YES" to all of the following questions regarding the first draft of your research paper.

1. Did I set my word program for a double-spaced format?

2. Did I save everything: irrelevant notes, bibliography entries, etc.?

3. Did I make a conscious effort in my introduction to attract the reader's interest?

4. Have I stated or implied my thesis statement in the introduction?

5. Have I organized my paper by listing the topics in the introduction in the same order
     they will appear in my paper?

6. Did I follow the organization established in my outline?

7. Does each paragraph include a stated or implied topic sentence corresponding to the     divisions of my outline?

8. Do tables and figures stand alone, and is the text clear without the tables or figures?

9. Did I follow one of the techniques for writing a conclusion to my paper?

10. Have I included accurate and complete parenthetical documentation?

11. Do my parenthetical citations match my alphabetized Works Cited page?

12. Have I included quotation marks around all direct quotes?

13. Are direct quotes fewer than 20% of my citations?

14. Did I delete irrelevant notes (those having little value to my topic) from the draft?

15. Does each citation in my text correspond to a Works Cited entry?

16. Does each Work Cited entry have a corresponding citation in the text of my paper?

17. Have I formatted my paper correctly including first page or cover page information,
       page numbers, margins, spacing, tables and figures, and works cited page?
