As winter strolls in, snowflakes begin to dust Monroe County. Reluctantly, most community members and students begin to accept the new season. The hot cocoa helps. But not everyone has a warm, safe space to go to during these months.
Did you know some students are homeless this winter?
The Foundation at Monroe County Community College desires to meet students right where they are. Even if it means going beyond academic support and into emergency situations.
Allie* was one of those students. She was homeless, living in her car, for months. She needed time to figure out her steps towards finding shelter, and MCCC was a hub of resources for her during that transition.
Because people like you give to The Foundation, it was ready for her: food from Heck’s Market Food Pantry, a safe space to warm up, scholarship opportunities, and a team of staff and resources ready to help students succeed.
Right now, another student is facing struggles similar to Allie. They’re choosing between gas and groceries, wondering how to pay the bills and still make it to class. For many of them, the MCCC campus is a safe space.
You can make sure help is there when they get here.
- $75 can give a student a full week of groceries.
- $100 can get a student through an emergency.
- $200 can provide a scholarship.
- Any amount helps a student stay warm, fed and in school.
