JOYCE HOAGLAND EBY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Joyce Eby

This scholarship was established by Mr. Ralph Eby in honor of his wife to assist students who have financial need, display academic promise, and a desire to obtain an education to assist them in making a life change.

Born in Marion, Ohio, Mrs. Eby grew up in Toledo, Ohio and is a 1946 graduate of Whitmer High School. She worked various jobs to pay for continuing her education and earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology and clothing/textiles from Bowling Green State University in 1951. She married Mr. Ralph Eby in 1953 and moved to Monroe. They have six children, three of whom are graduates of MCCC.

A homemaker and community volunteer, Mrs. Eby has been involved in many organizations, including Alpha Gamma Delta, Mercy Memorial Hospital Guild, St. Mary’s PTO, the Monroe Women’s Club and the Sawyer House. She also served on the Family Counseling and Shelter Services Board of Directors for 12 years and the Heartbeat of Monroe Board of Directors for 25 years.

“The college continues to satisfy a community need, as evidenced by its acceptance and growth,” said Mrs. Eby. “It’s an honor for me to be a part of that growth both now and in the future. A scholarship is a lasting memento of my interest in assisting a student who would otherwise be unable to continue beyond high school.”
