Notice of Funding Availability – Request for Proposals:

“The Beverly Heck Endowment is designated to support MCCC initiatives that encourage and facilitate student organizing and civic activism by funding activities that inspire engagement, give students a voice and empower their action to shape our community.”

The Foundation is pleased to announce funding availability for the inaugural Beverly Heck Memorial Grant Program.

Proposals may be submitted by any MCCC faculty, staff, student club, or individual student. All student-initiated proposals must include at least one lead MCCC staff member who agrees to oversee the grant, serve as an advisor throughout the grant term, and approve and process all expenses.

Total Funding: $11,500

Application Deadline: April 1, 2024

Project Duration: July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025. Under certain circumstances, The Foundation executive director may allow grant activities to start prior to the fiscal year, and extensions may be approved on a case-by-case basis with justification beyond June 30.

Grant Criteria - The purpose of the Beverly Heck Memorial Grant Program is to empower students to become more active in our community and find their voice on issues of importance to MCCC students. In addition to a brief narrative, proposals will address four questions:

  • What community or campus issue(s) will be the focus of grant activities?
  • How will the grant help students find their voice and empower their action in the community? Describe any planned activities or events that would result from this grant.
  • What, if any, internal and external organizations will the recipient work with to advance issues important to students?
  • In what ways will this grant advance student and MCCC goals in the areas of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging?

The purpose of the Safe Space: A Multicultural Student Center is the following: “the space is a welcoming place to be yourself, where students impacted by marginalization feel celebrated, where interactive and challenging educational experiences nurture personal growth, and where students are empowered to advocate for social change.” Project Safe Space will utilize a student-driven and empowering model to build community, generate aims that come from students, foster their leadership and development, and encourage them to implement their transformative visions, on their own terms and fulfilling the purpose of Safe Space.
