This year, the State of Michigan launched two new scholarship programs, Michigan Reconnect and the Michigan Community College Guarantee. These programs aim to make community college more affordable for Michigan students, covering up to the full in-district tuition and fees for eligible full-time students.
Both programs are structured as “last-dollar” scholarships, meaning that all other financial aid is applied to the student’s tuition and fees before these state funds. Currently, any remaining funds from your scholarship after the student’s book and supply purchases effectively reduce the amount the state covers. This outcome, however, does not align with the original intent of your scholarship—to provide direct support to students. To address this, The Foundation has adopted changes to how we administer scholarships to ensure that the state’s programs enhance, rather than replace, the impact of your scholarship.
