Matthew V. Student Success Story

Matthew V. Student Success Story Photo"The Foundation at MCCC has helped me more than I can describe in words," says Matthew V. of Monroe. "They've enabled me to reach my goal of graduating at MCCC with an associate degree, and finishing off strong in my classes, boosting my GPA up over a whole point."

Matthew, pictured on the right along with his brother, Joseph, and parents Julia and William, completed his degree in cybersecurity at MCCC in December 2020 and is now attending Eastern Michigan University.  Currently taking four cybersecurity courses and with plans to graduate with his bachelor's degree after three more semesters.

Matthew represents dozens of students who received an Emergency Relief Fund scholarship who were able to complete their studies in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and is continuing his studies through the Michigan Transfer Agreement.

"I am incredibly grateful and humbled by the Foundation's offering the scholarship to me," said Matthew. While the scholarship certainly had a significant impact on his strained financial situation due to the pandemic, the scholarship also was a significant motivator for him. Matthew wanted to prove to himself that he was worthy of the support of the donors to the Foundation, which he certainly demonstrated with his graduation and significant increase in his GPA.
