Criteria for Direct Transfer (Program-to-Program) into the Associate of Applied Science-Nursing (AAS) Program
This criteria applies to students that have been accepted to a nursing program and are currently or recently enrolled in nursing courses at another institution who desire to bypass the general nursing program application process at MCCC and transfer directly into nursing (NURS) courses in the AAS-Nursing program at MCCC. The following criteria must be met.
Students will be considered for direct transfer into a nursing course at MCCC only if there is space available in the applicable course. MCCC courses eligible for direct transfer into include NURS 105, NURS 110, NURS 204, NURS 205, or NURS 208. The process for determining which course is appropriate for the student to transfer into can be lengthy and requires the student to provide documents suitable for making this determination. Only students that are in good standing with the home (transfer) institution/program may receive transfer credit. Transfer credit will only be given for the following courses: NURS 103, NURS 105, NURS 110, NURS 204, NURS 205, and NURS 210, providing all other criteria/requirements are met.
1. Nursing credit to be transferred to MCCC must be no more than two years old by the scheduled starting date for the next nursing course in the MCCC plan of study (as determined by the faculty). Residency requirements for MCCC must be met for graduation. Students must earn at least 15 credits from MCCC in order to graduate with a degree.
2. The student may be asked to successfully pass a validation examination(s), including by not limited to nursing skills, mathematics, and written theory, for the nursing course(s) to be transferred.
3. Anatomy and physiology courses must be transferable to MCCC, must meet MCCC program requirements, and must be no more than five years old. If the student must take BIOL 258, the BIOL 257 equivalent course must be no more than two years old.
4. The student must meet all current MCCC RN admission criteria (see the current Registered Nursing Admission Verification Worksheet posted on the program webpage).
5. The student must provide MCCC with a letter of recommendation on official letterhead from the administrator/director of the nursing program of the transferring institution indicating that the student has not been dismissed from the program for academic or disciplinary reasons. The student must be in a position to return to the home/transfer program if so desired. Students that are ineligible to return to the home/transfer program are ineligible for direct transfer into MCCC’s AAS-Nursing program.
6. The student must provide the college with official transcripts showing successful completion (C or better) of the course(s) to be transferred for credit.
7. The student must provide the college with detailed outlines of instruction that include all course student learning outcomes for the course(s) to be transferred. The content must be comparable or exceed requirements for NURS 103, NURS 105, NURS 110, NURS 204, NURS 205, and NURS 210.
8. All non-nursing required support courses, which come before the nursing course the student is entering, must be completed with a grade of C or better and transferable to MCCC. Revised: 10/12/2020 KSL
9. The student must be CPR certified (see CPR Proficiency policy in the Student Information Handbook) and show evidence of health insurance prior to admission to nursing courses.
10. Students must comply with all health requirements outlined in the Student Information Handbook.
11. Students will be required to complete a random drug screen and must abide by the Drugs, Intoxicants, and Mind Altering Substances policy in the Student Information Handbook.
12. Students will be required to complete a criminal background check according to the requirements outlined in the Student Information Handbook. Any criminal convictions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Students should be aware that criminal convictions of any sort may prevent clinical placement in the program, licensure attainment, or employability in the field and may deem the student ineligible for direct transfer into the program.
13. Students seeking transfer into the program will not be considered if they have applied to the MCCC AAS-Nursing program within two (2) admission cycles of the direct transfer request.
14. By the end of the first nursing course, the student must demonstrate satisfactory clinical and academic performance or the student will be dropped from the program.
15. Maximum time to complete the program if accepted under the direct transfer criteria:
| Entering Program | Numbers of Semesters to Complete Program |
|---|---|
| NURS 105 / NURS 110 | 5 Semesters |
| NURS 204 / NURS 205/ NURS 210 | 3 Semesters |
| NURS 208 | 2 Semesters |
16. The deadline for applying for direct transfer into the MCCC Nursing Program is April 15 for the fall semester and October 15 for the winter semester each academic year.
17. Questions related to the direct transfer opportunity and requirements should be directed to the Health Sciences Division Office (734-384-4102).
