Disability Services F.A.Q.

To begin the accommodation process, students can complete the student accommodation request form located on the college’s website, Get Connected with Disability Services weblink, or call our office at 734-384-4167 to schedule an appointment with a Disability Services Coordinator.

A person with a disability is one who has a physical, psychological or learning impairment that substantially limits a major life activity and has been documented by an appropriate professional.

IEP/504 plans do not automatically transfer to college. Students must meet with a Disability Services Coordinator to provide documentation and develop an approved accommodation plan.

In most cases, documentation of your disability is required to receive services. Documentation may include medical records, reports and assessments created by health care professionals, school psychologists, teachers or an educational system. Examples may include a psychological evaluation, 504 plan, IEP (Individual Education Plan) or SOP (Summary of Performance).

Students should meet with a Disability Services Coordinator as soon as they have applied to MCCC. The Coordinator will assist with course selection, registration, and developing an accommodation plan.

Once the Disability Services Office receives appropriate documentation, students do not need to provided additional documentation each semester. However, students do need to complete a semester request in the Accommodate portal each semester.

Students have the right to seek accommodation reconsideration or file an ADA complaint. This process is outlined in our Important Information for Students with Disabilities Brochure which is located on the College’s website.
