RTI Provider vs. Program Sponsor: What's the Difference?
In a Registered Apprenticeship Program, the Program Sponsor and the RTI Provider play distinct but complementary roles.
Program Sponsor
The Program Sponsor is the organization responsible for administering and overseeing the apprenticeship program.
Program Sponsors are responsible for:
- Registering and maintaining the apprenticeship program
- Recruiting and enrolling apprentices
- Providing or coordinating on-the-job training
- Tracking apprentice progress and performance
- Ensuring compliance with apprenticeship standards
- Coordinating with training and education partners
RTI Provider
The RTI Provider delivers the Related Technical Instruction required by the apprenticeship program.
RTI Providers are responsible for:
- Delivering technical instruction and coursework
- Assessing apprentice learning outcomes
- Maintaining educational records
- Supporting apprentices' academic success
Working Together
Many successful apprenticeship programs involve collaboration between a Program Sponsor and one or more RTI Providers. While the Program Sponsor manages the overall apprenticeship program, the RTI Provider delivers the educational component that complements workplace learning.
