CANDIDATE FORUM

Meyer Theater, La-Z-Boy Center

Monroe County Community College, in partnership with Monroe News and the Monroe NAACP Branch 3164, will host two forums for area candidates seeking office in the upcoming November election. 

The forums will take place on consecutive nights -- October 19 and 20 -- each at 6 p.m.in the Meyer Theater in the La-Z-Boy Center on the college's Main Campus, 1555 S. Raisinville Rd., Monroe, MI.

The following candidates will be participating in this Candidates Forum: 

  • Police Facility Addition Bond Proposal: Commander JD Wall, Monroe Public Safety Department.
  • US Representative, District 5: Tim Walberg (REP) and Bart Goldberg (DEM).
  • State Representative, 56th District (2 year term): William T. Bruck (REP).
  • State Representative, 28th District (2 year term): Jamie Thompson (REP) and Rob Kull (DEM).
  • County Commissioner, District #3: Dawn A. Asper (REP).
  • County Commissioner, District #6: Jerry Oley (DEM) and David P. Vensel (REP).
  • Monroe County Community College (2 - 6 year terms): Bruce Diven, Candace Ferrell, Michael LaHote and Jason Matthews.

This is a non-partisan, equal opportunity for candidates to present their thoughts and views on a variety of topics.

At the forum, candidates will be able to share information about their platforms and thoughts on a variety of topics, as well as interact with constituents. General topics and questions will be provided to candidates in advance.

The forums are not debates, he said. Each candidate will have two minutes for an introduction and two minutes to answer each question.

Each forum should last about one hour.
