Chelsea Bruck Memorial Scholarship Established at Monroe County Community College

MONROE, Mich. – The friends and family of Chelsea Bruck have established the Chelsea Bruck Memorial Scholarship at Monroe County Community College.

It is the intent of the Bruck family to raise a minimum of $20,000 to establish an endowed scholarship. The scholarship is being created by an initial gift of $7,000 to The Foundation at Monroe County Community College and will begin awarding an annual $500 scholarship. The funds will provide scholarship support for an MCCC student enrolled in the Culinary Skills and Management program and will give preference to a student with a GED. The funds came from fundraising donations mostly from families throughout Monroe County, and the family wanted to keep the money in Monroe. Their hope is to help keep Chelsea’s memory alive.

Bruck struggled during school and was just a couple credits short of her high school diploma. At the time of her disappearance, she was researching GED programs and talking about wanting to go to culinary school. She worked at Olga’s Kitchen at the Mall of Monroe for four years as a waitress and as a hostess.

To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must:

  • be accepted into and enrolled in the Culinary Skills and Management Program (CSM).
  • financial need may be considered in awarding the scholarship.

Bruck the youngest of five children raised on a four generation family farm realized the accomplishments of some of her siblings were a direct result of their college education and hard work. ‘We want this scholarship to be a positive reminder of Chelsea. A young woman who had hopes and dreams and a full life a head of her,’ said her family when establishing the scholarship.
