The Foundation At MCCC Awards The Disabled American Veterans Chapter 137 Scholarship

MONROE, Mich. – The Foundation Monroe County Community College has awarded the D.A.V. Chapter 137 Scholarship to Ryan Ehlen and Alex Staffeld. The D.A.V. Chapter 137 Scholarship was established at The Foundation at MCCC to provide scholarship support for a MCCC student who is a disabled veteran, an honorably discharged veteran or a dependent of a veteran. Each $500 scholarship is to be used for tuition, fees, books, and supplies.

Ehlen of Carleton is a 2010 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School in Taylor, Michigan. He is enrolled in the agriculture program at MCCC. His future plan is to grow produce to help veterans transition out of the military by creating a veteran-friendly farm for veterans to gain new skills and decompress. He is the son of Jeffrey and Tawnya Ehlen.

Staffeld of Monroe is a 2019 graduate of Monroe High School. He is a member of Monroe High School band and has participated in the Relay for Life. Alex is the son of Melinda and David Staffeld.

To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must be a resident of Monroe County, MI and a United States citizen, must be a veteran or the child of a veteran, the veteran must have received an honorable discharge and submit a copy of their DD-214, have a 2.5 grade point average or higher. Financial need may be considered in awarding the scholarship.
