MCCC TO OFFER VIRTUAL TRAINING SESSION ON IMPLICIT BIAS AND REDUCING RACIAL DISPARITIES

Monroe County Community College will offer a training session titled “Implicit Bias: Reducing Racial Disparities Through Understanding” virtually via Microsoft Teams on Aug. 26 from 9-11 a.m.

Participants will learn how to define and understand implicit and explicit bias and overcome these biases to help create a more diverse world at work and at home.

The cost is $49 for the first registration and $29 subsequent registrations from the same organization.

"Diversity and acceptance have taken on a new importance in the world today and to effectively support diversity in our daily lives, we must understand and confront our own unconscious biases," said Barry Kinsey, director of workforce development at MCCC.

Through this training, participants will be instructed to use skills such as active listening to receive messages in a diverse population, employ effective questioning techniques and communicate with strength.  They will also learn to use strategies for removing barriers and stereotypes on a personal level, in their communities and in their workplace.

The training will be led by instructor Ben Negron, an accomplished trainer in the topics of cultural diversity, coaching, communication, conflict resolution and customer service. Negron led the most recent community discussion, “An Honest Conversation About Racism: Call to Action,” hosted by MCCC.

To register, please contact Renee Drouillard at rdrouillard@monroeccc.edu or (734) 384-4229.
