RESPIRATORY THERAPY CAREER INFORMATION SESSIONS SCHEDULED AT MCCC ON FEB. 13

The Respiratory Therapy Program at Monroe County Community College will host RT career information sessions for the public on Thursday, February 13, 2020.

Three sessions will be offered at 12:30 - 1:45 p.m., 3 - 4:15 p.m. and 6:30 - 7:45 p.m. The information sessions will be in Room 157 or 159 of the Welch Health Education Building, located on the main campus of MCCC, 1555 S. Raisinville Road in Monroe.

At the sessions, participants can learn about respiratory therapy careers, including job duties, employment outlook and classes needed to enter the program. RT program faculty will be available to answer questions. Prospective students can also earn a point toward admission into the program by attending.

“These information sessions are a great opportunity for prospective students to attend, especially if they are interested in starting classes at MCCC this summer or fall,” said Dr. Ijaz Ahmed, respiratory therapy program director. “The RT program operates as a cohort group beginning each fall semester. There are three pre-admission courses students also need to take including Math 151 Intermediate Algebra, Biology 151 Biological Sciences I and Biology 257 Anatomy and Physiology I. Students interested in beginning the RT program with the fall 2020 cohort may want to take the pre-admission courses in summer 2020.”  The application deadline for the fall 2020 RT program cohort is June 8, 2020. More information about the Respiratory Therapy Program, including prerequisites, application and degree requirements can be found at www.monroeccc.edu/programs/respiratory-therapy.

Three more information session days are also scheduled for April 16, April 18 and May 14, 2020, prior to the application deadline.

“The MCCC RT program is recognized as one of the best in the state of Michigan and the United States. We are a recipient of the Distinguished Credentialing Success Award from the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care and 100% of our students have passed the CRT credential exam and 98% have passed the RRT exam in the past three years,” said Ahmed. “We currently have articulation agreements with University of Michigan-Flint, Eastern Michigan University and University of Toledo that make transferring to a four-year institution to pursue a bachelor’s degree quite easy. And we plan to secure even more articulation agreements in the near future.”
