WOMEN’S SELF-DEFENSE SEMINAR, TAE KWON DO CLASSES OFFERED THIS SPRING AND SUMMER

The Women’s Self-Defense Seminar will be held on Thursday, April 2 from 7-9 p.m. in the Welch Health Educational Building on the Main Campus. This seminar will cover simple self-defense strategies designed to help women protect themselves from attackers. Participants will learn how to recognize threatening situations, methods of responding to them, and how to mentally and emotionally gather the confidence they need to survive an attack. The cost is $29 with a discounted rate of $14.50 for senior citizens.

A four-week The Tae Kwon Do class is scheduled for March 31 - April 23. The class will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-7:45 p.m. in the Welch Health Educational Building on the Main Campus. The cost for this session is $54 per person with a senior discount rate of $28.50. Participants can add a private lesson to this class package for $25 ($22.50 for senior citizens), which is a popular option for many students.

For the summer, Tae Kwon Do enthusiasts can seamlessly continue their training by registering for a 16-week session that runs from April 28 - August 13 for $196 and save $20 versus signing up for the four, four-week sessions separately (senior citizens can save and additional $10 on the discount rate for a cost of $104).

"Of course, we welcome new students from the age of five on up to join us and learn mind and body control through unarmed self-defense techniques, discipline and concentration," said Master Mark Bergmooser, instructor for the classes. "Tae Kwon Do translates into 'the way of kicking and punching with proper attitude and concentration' in Korean," added Bergmooser, who holds a fifth-degree black belt in the martial art.

In addition to the 16-week session, there will be four-week sessions held throughout the summer including April 28-August 13; April 28-May 28 (no class on May 7, 21 and 26); June 2-25 (no class June 8); June 30-July 21; and July 23-August 13. The cost for each of these sessions is $54 per person with a senior discount rate of $28.50. Participants can add a private lesson to each package for $25 ($22.50 for senior citizens), for a total cost of $79 ($51 for seniors) for each four-week session.

The 16-week and four-week Tae Kwon Do sessions will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-7:45 p.m. in the Welch Health Educational Building on the Main Campus.
