On Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021, “Conversations about Peace” featuring representatives from the IHM Sisters of Mercy, the Monroe Rotary Club and others will be hosted by MCCC via Zoom. Also, during the month of January, the Community Outreach Committee at MCCC is encouraging staff, faculty, students and the community to participate in two activities benefitting frontliners and senior citizens.

Monetary donations to be used to create “Frontliner Care Packages” will be accepted through Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021, at the Cashier Office in the Administration Building on the MCCC main campus on Raisinville Road. The care packages will be distributed during MCCC Diversity Week to local agencies that are helping frontliners and their families deal with the stress of the pandemic on a daily basis.

Through the “Send a SMILE to a Senior” effort the MCCC COC is encouraging staff, faculty, students and the community to consider mailing a warm note, card, or have children draw, paint, color a picture to send to a senior living in a nursing facility. Most, if not all of facilities have been closed to visitors during this pandemic. To help participants, the committee has provided a list of the area facilities accepting the “Send a SMILE to a Senior” messages.
