MCCC TO OFFER NEW PESTICIDE APPLICATORY AND BASIC LAWN MAINTENANCE CERTIFICATION TRAINING

Monroe County Community College is offering a brand new non-credit professional training program, Pesticide Applicator and Basic Lawn/Turf Maintenance, this spring beginning March 17, 2021. 

The 30-hour Pesticide Applicator course will be held on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, 6 – 9 p.m., through April 15 in the Health Education Building on the college’s main campus, 1555 Raisinville Road, in Monroe.  

The course will prepare students to sit for the Michigan Department of Agricultural and Rural Development Commercial Core and 3A Turf exams. During the course, participants will receive an introduction to spray application and sprayer calibration, identify common turf grasses and weed seedlings, and receive an introduction to pesticides, including how to handle and use them correctly and protect themselves, others and the environment from misuse. There will be a review of the Master Gardener Soils class and thorough review of Commercial Core and the Turfgrass manuals, including practice exams.   

The cost of the course is $399 and includes textbooks and materials. Participants will be responsible for costs ($75) associated with registering for and taking the MDARD certification exam upon completion of the training.
