Monroe County Community College’s Office of Lifelong Learning is offering a series of non-credit photography workshops this spring. The sessions will be taught by Kevin Trickey, a local fine arts photographer.  To register for any of the workshops below, please call the Office of Lifelong Learning, 734.384.4127.

Inside Photography Workshop will be offered Saturday, April 23, 2022, from 12:00- 4:00 p.m. Participants will learn how to take natural looking candid photos that help capture a moment. Topics to be covered include ISO, modifying the on-camera or add-on flash, white balance, window light and polarizer along with valuable tips on how to improve photographing items, objects, products and people without spending a fortune on expensive studio equipment. Workshop will meet at MCCC of the Life Sciences Building, Room L-144. The cost for this workshop is $49 (senior fee $24.50).

Studio Workshop for Photographers will be offered Saturday, April 30, 2022, from 12:00- 4:00 p.m. This workshop is designed for any photographer who wants to learn about studio photography. Topics to be covered include studio strobes, light modifiers, position and placement of lights, background, where to buy equipment and props, and positioning people. Content has been touched on in Trickey’s previous photography workshops but additional information will be presented and will allow participants the opportunity to gain even more technical experience. Participants should bring their camera and plan to get some hands-on experience in the studio. The workshop will meet at MCCC in the Dining Hall of the Warrick Administration/Student Services Building Building. The cost for this workshop is $49 (senior fee $24.50).

Landscape and Nature Photography Workshop will be offered Saturday, May 14, 2022, from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. Participants will expand their understanding of how to shoot landscape and nature photographs. Topics include light, composition and exposure. Participants should bring their cameras and tripods, if they own one. Class will meet at Sterling State Park in Monroe. Prerequisite: Photography 1 or similar experience. The cost for this workshop is $49 (senior fee $24.50). 

Outside Portrait Photography Workshop will be offered Saturday, May 21, 2022, from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. This workshop is designed for any photography who wants to learn about taking on-location portrait photographs using a film or digital camera. Participants will learn about fill-in-flash, reflectors, types of light, controlling light outside and composition. Participants should bring their camera and plan to get some hands-on experience. The workshop will meet at Veterans Park in Monroe.  Prerequisite: Photography 1 or similar experience. The cost for this workshop is $49 (senior fee $24.50).

In addition to the single Saturday sessions described above, Trickey will also be teaching the seven-week Photography II for Digital and Film Cameras this spring. Photography II for Digital and Film Cameras will be held on Tuesdays, May 10 - June 21, 2022, from 10 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. or from  6:30 – 9:30 p.m. Participants will expand their vison for photography by studying different photographic areas and producing projects related to those areas. Projects include landscapes, photo essays, portraits and studio portraits. No prerequisites required, but completion of previously offered Photography I is helpful. Participants should bring their camera to each session that will meet at MCCC in Life Sciences Building, Room L-144. The seven-week series costs $94 (senior fee $47).
