LEARN MORE ABOUT RESPIRATORY THERAPY, AGRICULTURAL OPERATIONS, AGRIBUSINESS AND GRAPHIC DESIGN PROGRAMS AT MCCC AND CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

During the month of April, Monroe County Community College is hosting three different open house/information sessions for some of the college's most popular programs and high-demand, high-pay careers. These events are free and open to the public. Current MCCC students, prospective students and parents, and adults who are interested in a new or career change will likely find these sessions informative and helpful in making important higher education and career decisions.

On Thursday, April 13, 2023, the Respiratory Therapy Program at MCCC will host three opportunities for students and prospective students, including adults interested in exploring a new career, to learn more about the growing field of respiratory therapy. The information sessions will be offered at 10 - 11:30 a.m., at 1 - 2:30 p.m. and again in the evening from 6 - 7:30 p.m. The information sessions will be held in the Gerald Welch Health Education Building on the college's main campus . Pre-registration is necessary and easy using the 'RT Career Information Sessions' button on www.monroeccc.edu/rt and select the preferred time to attend.

During the RT Program information session, participants will learn about respiratory therapy careers, including job duties, employment outlook and classes needed to enter the program. Respiratory Therapy Program faculty will be available to answer questions. On Tuesday, April 18, 2023, current and future students will have the opportunity to learn more about MCCC's two agriculturally-focused programs, Agricultural Operations and Agribusiness. Michigan State University, MCCC's academic partner in developing and operating these two popular programs, will also be on hand during the Open House that will be held in Founders Hall in the Vacjner Academic Commons area beginning at 6 p.m.  

The Agribusiness pathway provides students with a solid background in plant and soil science, precision agriculture, agriculture management, entomology, plant pathology and additional fundamentals of core business courses. Graduates earn a certificate in agricultural operations from MSU and an associate of applied science in agribusiness from MCCC, which also includes 62-63 credits for transfer to MSU toward a bachelor's degree and consideration for preferred transfer status. 

The Agricultural Operations pathway provides students with a solid background in plant and soil science, precision agriculture, agriculture management, entomology, plant pathology and additional fundamentals of agriculture. Graduates earn a certificate in agricultural operations from MSU and and an associate of applied science in agriculture from MCCC, which also includes 60 credits for transfer to MSU toward a bachelor's degree and consideration for preferred transfer status.

On Thursday, April 27, 2023, MCCC's Business Division will hold hold a Graphic Design Programs Open House at 6 p.m. in the Vacjner Academic Commons in Founders Hall. 

MCCC offers seven certificates and two associate of applied science degrees. Certificates offered include:

  • Computer Graphics, Basic Certificate
  • Digital Media, Basic Certificate
  • Digital Media, Certificate
  • Illustration, Basic Certificate
  • Illustration, Certificate
  • Interaction Design, Basic Certificate
  • Interaction Design, Certificate

In the Graphic Design: Digital Media AAS program students will explore the fundamentals of design, creation of graphical assets, publication design, 3D design and time-based media using industry-standard software.

In the Graphic Design: Illustration AAS program students will explore digital media concepts with a focus on art history and traditional art fundamentals.

MCCC has a '3+1' articulation agreement with Eastern Michigan University that offers the opportunity to transfer 79 credits earned at MCCC to EMU to complete a bachelor's degree in communication technology (computer programming or graphic applications). This allows a student to take three years of full-time courses at MCCC and completing one more year, full-time at EMU to finish the bachelor's degree, resulting in a significant cost savings in tuition for the student.
