MCCC'S POPULAR TAE KWON DO CLASSES RESUME FEB. 2; WOMEN'S SELF-DEFENSE SEMINAR ALSO OFFERED JAN. 31

MCCC's very popular non-credit Tae Kwon Do classes will begin Tuesday, February 2, for the Winter 2023 semester. The Tae Kwon Do classes meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-7:45 p.m. in the Welch Health Education Building on the Main Campus. There are three, four-week sessions offered (second session begins March 9; third session begins April 4). The cost for each four-week session is $60 per person with a senior discount rate of $31.50. For those interested in registering in advance for all three sessions, there is a $15 discount, with total cost for the semester of $165 ($84 for senior citizens).

Participants can add a private lesson to individual four-week sessions for a total cost of $95 ($59 for senior citizens) per session, which is a popular option for many students. Additional private lessons can also be scheduled at the student's request. Fees and times can be arranged through the Office of Lifelong Learning at 734-384-4127, as can registration for any of the Tae Kwon Do sessions.

"We welcome new students from the age of five on up to join us and learn mind and body control through unarmed self-defense techniques, discipline and concentration," said Master Mark Bergmooser, instructor for the classes. "Tae Kwon Do translates into 'the way of kicking and punching with proper attitude and concentration' in Korean," added Bergmooser, who holds a fifth-degree black belt in the martial art.

In addition, a Women's Self-Defense Seminar, also taught by Bergmooser, will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2023, from 6:30 - 8 p.m.  in the Welch Health Education Building on the Main Campus. The class will cover simple self-defense strategies designed to help women protect themselves from potential attack including how to recognize threatening situations, methods of responding to threatening situations and how to mentally and emotionally gather the confidence needed to survive an attack.   The cost is $29 per person with a senior fee of $14.50. To register or for more information, contact the Office of Lifelong Learning at (734) 384-4127.
