Pre-Apprenticeship Basics Special Course This Summer at MCCC

Beginning May 9, 2023, Monroe County Community College will be offering a Pre-Apprenticeship Basics Special Topics course.

This course, which meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6 - 8:25 p.m., through July 13, 2023, is a special summer course for current MCCC or prospective students who are interested in experiential learning and how to pursue apprenticeship opportunities.

Pre-Apprenticeship Basics introduces students to the scope and tasks required for a successful career in the professional trades. Using a combination of lectures and lab practice and activities, the course will cover basics such as taking accurate measurements in the field, math calculations, tool safety and usage and exposure to typical construction site conditions. This course is designed to emphasize basic trade skills and provide exposure to multiple construction trades pathways: pipefitting, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, labor, insulator and operator.

After successful completion of the course, students will earn two college credits. Offered in the evenings, the Pre-Apprenticeship Basics course is an option to consider for those who are currently employed and work during the day and may be looking to make a career change to gain the basic skills required to pursue an apprenticeship and learn more about the various professional trades that offer apprenticeship opportunities.

Students new to MCCC will need to complete an online Application for Admission (www.monroeccc.edu and select the APPLY tab) to get started. For more information call 734-384-4270 or email khenry@monroeccc.edu.
